I'm cheating for a lil' bit here, but I couldn't pass early October without thinking about this race. With 7 races to go in the chase, Junebug has just put himself atop the standings. All was good in his world, as the man had already won FIVE races in 2004. 5?!? Can you guys even imagine 2 anymore?
Anyway, I think we all know what happened in victory circle that day.
Dale had just used one of them DEI rocket ships he used to get to come from 10th with 4 to go to win his 5th race at Dega. He pulls into victory lane as the happiest I'd ever seen the man. Hard to even watch the video and see it as the same person we get week in and week out now.
Anyway, after hitting the TV audience with a couple of harmless "HELL YEAH's", Dale told em that this win "Don't mean shit." You know why?! Daddy done won ten. I thought if you ever reference Sr in an interview, you are absolved of any possible penalty earned during it?! Maybe Kurt should give that a try.

Well, just like that, the points lead evaporated and the rest is history. Maybe that's why Junebug always seems like he's reading off a cue card every interview.
All of that being said, for me, the penalty isn't why this gets a feature in TWIEH. It's the raw emotion you see from Junior post race. That's why we all love him. The passion he showed there. The down south, redneck, just finished kickin some ass attitude. Maybe we see that sometime soon. DALE YEAH!
