Even with his shitty finishes his last 2 times here Jr has actually been pretty good here (6th among active drivers since 2011) with an average finish of 11.4. Jimmie and Jeff are both ahead of him. It goes without saying Hendrick is good here. You can remember the 2012 spring race where Hendrick was 1-3 on the final restart before Ryan 'Bloomin' Newman forced his way through to steal the win. Since then, Jimmie has won the last 2 races at martinsville and he has to be looked at as the favorite, trying to extend his cup lead, going into the weekend.
And that brings us to talking about how this race fits into the cup as the 7th race of the chase. For now, it's still a 2 man race with Jimmie edging kenseth by 4 points. Harv, Gordon and bitch boy are still hanging around but they'll probably need some help from the 48 and 20 if any of them are going to seriously get back into contention. Only 18 points behind Gordon is....you guessed it...dale. After blowing up at Chicago he has been awesome this chase. Stupid Chicagoland nobody even likes you. Here is a very interesting stat*- if you take Chicagoland out of the chase Jimmie leads by 5 points over kenseth. In third? You guessed it...jr! He's only 15 points back of JJ through races 2-6 of the chase. Too bad there ain't no mulligans.
*i just calculated myself and after drinking myself into bolivian last night (how else are you supposed to watch a panthers-bucs game) it may not be exactly accurate. But it's close
