Honorable Mention-2012- Juan Pablo Blows Up a Jet Dryer
Under caution, Juan Pablo comes flying around the track trying to catch up to the pack, loses control, bashes into the back of a jet dryer, causes a huge explosion that melts the track, and causes a 2-3 hour delay in the race. Just think about that. It's so assured and hilarious. Probably one of the most ridiculous moments in NASCAR. And that is why it gets a spot on this list.
5-1979-The Fight
Imagine something like that happened today with all the media and political correctness bullshit that's everywhere in sports? I think NASCAR might actually get on sportscenter for more than 10 seconds and NASCAR fans would probably break twitter. Reporters and mainstream media would be outraged and say its a disgrace to the sport. We, and I'm assuming a lot of other people, would love it. It would add so much entertainment and it's great seeing drivers show that much passion. Plus it's funny as hell.
4-1985-Bill Elliot's First 500 Victory
Awesome Bill from Dawsonville dominates the race and is close to lapping the entire field by lap 140. Try to imagine the outrage from NASCAR fans today if a driver ever came close to lapping the entire field. Apparently NASCAR didn't like that too much because during a pit stop officials hold him in the pits to repair a 'broken' headlight assembly. This knocks Elliott back to 3rd, barely still on the lead lap. Elliott makes up this deficit, mostly under green and survives a late race caution and final lap restart to win his first Daytona 500.
3-2004-Dale Earnhardt Jr., Daytona 500 Champion
3 years after Sr.'s death (RIP) Junebug gets his Super Bowl. This was only the first of 5 wins and a dominant season for Jr. in '04. I have a feeling we may be adding another Dale Jr. win to this list in a few days.
2-1993-Dale Jarrett with his Dad Announcing
Listening to this broadcast and hearing such a proud father announcing his son's win is a great moment in sports. I'm sure my dad is just as proud of me when he hears that I'm drinking 15+ beers, painting DALE on my chest, and wearing short cutoff jeans at NASCAR races.
1-1998-Dale Earnhardt Finally Gets His
The wait is over! I can't write any words to capture how awesome this moment was. Just watch the video.
**I didn't feel comfortable adding this to the list of greatest Daytona 500 moments, but it needed to be addressed in this blog.
2001-RIP
We all know what happened in the 2001 race, no need to recap this. I just wanted to mention this race as a way of honoring all of the great memories Sr. gave NASCAR fans and how important he was to this sport that we love. RIP, 3Forever.

Nicely done, think I would have put Jr's 2nd & Jarrett's 3rd. Just saying.....
